【Abstract】This paper studies the influences of lamp placement on power saving for indoor visible light communication systems. Four typical schemes are considered. By modeling the pulse waveform design of the communication system as a linear programming problem, power consumption is minimized for each scheme. Numerical results show that lamp placement is important for indoor visible light communication systems. When the power consumed by the controlling circuits is negligible, higher power saving efficiency can be obtained by dividing the LEDs into more uniformly spaced units each having a local controlling circuit while the total number of LEDs is kept unchanged.
